The Nuremberg Moot Court is an international competition, held in English in Nuremberg, Germany. University teams worldwide are invited to argue a fictitious case before the “International Criminal Court” during the competition. A moot court is a simulated court proceeding that invites law students to compete based on their oral and written legal argumentation and presentation, from both the prosecution and defence positions.
The oral rounds of Nuremberg Moot Court Competition, held at the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg, Germany, from July 24th to 27th, 2024, spanning for almost 8 months. The team comprised Ms. Ranudi Premasinghe Ms Ruvindi Fernando and Ms. Yasara Pitawala.
The team first advanced to the top 40 teams in the oral phase from the written phase out of over 200 teams globally and was one of two Sri Lankan teams to do so. Having won both preliminary rounds, the team advanced to the ‘Last 16’ stage, being the only team from Sri Lanka to do so and finished 10th in the Preliminaries. 155 law students from 40 universities competed on-site in the oral rounds.
The team had the unique opportunity to plead in the historic Courtroom 600, where the Nuremberg Trials took place.
