Certificate Course
Democracy- From Theory to Practice
Expression of Interest is called from the undergraduates of the Department of Law to enrol for a certificate course titled, Democracy- from Theory to Practice. This course is offered in pursuance to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Department of Law, University of Jaffna and International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
30 students will be selected based on the expression of interest. In case if the department receives more than 30 expressions of interest, the Head of the Department in consultation with the academic staff will finalize the names of the 30 undergraduate.
The final list of selected students will be displayed on the students’ notice board.
The brief description of the certificate course is as follows, Under current programming in Sri Lanka, IFES is providing support to Sri Lanka’s key institutions to effectively, efficiently and inclusively respond to the needs and democratic aspirations of the Sri Lankan people. IFES, in partnership with the Department of Law, will implement the proposed Activity for students at the University of Jaffna.
The course focuses on soft skills, such as public speaking and advocacy, as well as providing students with civic education on topics such as the fundamentals of democratic participation and the political structure of the country. The course also includes interactive activities, student projects, and additional extracurricular activity opportunities for top performers. The program will take an intersectional approach to ensure inclusion of youth with disabilities, women and other groups.
The expression of interest shall be forwarded to the office of the Department either via email ( law@univ.jfn.ac.lk) or by direct handing over on or before 08th of September 2023. The late applications will not be entertained on any ground whatsoever.
