Expression of Interest

SHE LEADS TRAINING PROGRAMME

Expression of Interest is called from female undergraduates of the Department of Law to participate in the She Leads leadership programme. This programme is an activity under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Department of Law, University of Jaffna and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).

25 students will be selected based on their expression of interest. In case the department receives more than 25 expressions of interest, the Head of the Department in consultation with the academic staff will finalize the names of the 25 female undergraduates. The final list of selected students will be displayed on the students’ notice board.

A brief description of the training programme is as follows,

Under current programming in Sri Lanka, IFES is providing support to Sri Lanka’s key institutions to effectively, efficiently and inclusively respond to the needs and democratic aspirations of the Sri Lankan people. IFES, in partnership with the Department of Law, will implement the proposed Activity for female students at the University of Jaffna.  IFES’ “She Leads” training program works to empower women with the skills and knowledge to participate and take on leadership roles in the political space and in their communities.  This includes a focus on building skills, such as public speaking and advocacy, as well as providing women leaders with civic education on topics such as the fundamentals of democratic participation and the political structure of the country. The training also includes modules on the electoral context, networking, and debating, among other leadership-building sessions. The skills acquired through the training will enhance the capacity of young women leaders to excel in their roles as students at the university and youth leaders in their communities.

The expression of interest shall be forwarded to the office of the Department either via email ( law@univ.jfn.ac.lk) or by direct handing over on or before the 8th of May 2023. The late applications will not be entertained on any ground whatsoever.
