Mr. Sivanesan Pradinath is specialized in fields of Company Law, Banking Law, and International Trade Law. With extensive knowledge and expertise in these areas, he has made significant contributions to the academic community through his research, publications, and teaching.

Mr. Sivanesan Pradinath has an impressive teaching experience, having been a lecturer (probationary) at the Department of Law, University of Jaffna since February 2016. He has taught a range of subjects, including Law of Contract, Business Law, Intellectual Property Law, International Trade Law, and Company Law, which are all essential areas of study for Bachelor of Laws Degree Programme students.

Mr. Pradinath has been teaching Law of Contract to Year II students, Business Law to Year III students since 2016, Intellectual Property Law to Year III, and International Trade Law to Year III students since 2017. He has also been teaching Company Law to Year IV students since 2018 and has been the supervisor of undergraduate research projects for Year IV students since 2018.

Undergraduate research project:

Pradinath has completed his Bachelor of Laws degree in 2015, with a research project titled The Writ Jurisdiction and Fundamental Rights Jurisdiction in Sri Lanka: A Way Forward. The project was supervised by Prof. N. Selvakkumar, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo.

Post-Graduate research project:

In 2017, Mr. Pradinath completed his Master of Laws degree, with a research project titled Corporate Abuses Under the Shield of Corporate Veil: A Critical Study of the Principle of Limited Liability and the Veil of Incorporation. The project was supervised by Dr. K. Kanag Isvaran, President’s Counsel.

Mr. Sivanesan Pradinath has been lecturing at the Open Distance Learning Centre, University of Jaffna since March 2021. He is currently teaching ‘Commercial and Industrial Law’ as a part of the Bachelor of Arts (External) Degree programme.

He has served as a visiting lecturer at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Jaffna since March 2021. He has been teaching a subject of “Industrial Law and Ethics”. 

He has served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Jaffna, in March 2021 to December 2021. He has been teaching “Corporate Law (COM 11032)” to the first-year students of the Bachelor of Commerce Degree Programme.

He has appeared on behalf of the University of Jaffna in the Sri Lanka National Arbitration Centre. In the case of V.V. Ramanathan and Company (Pvt) Ltd vs. The Vice-Chancellor, University of Jaffna, SLNC/ 36-11-2018, which was held from July 2019 to December 2020.

He served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Jaffna University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) from January 2021 to 2022.

In addition, he is also a member of the Curriculum Development Committee for the Commercial Law Cluster of the Department of Law, University of Jaffna from 2019 to the present. 

Furthermore, he has served as the representative of the probationary staff to the Faculty Board from 2019 to 2022. He has been an effective representative, providing a voice for the probationary staff and ensuring their concerns and needs are heard and addressed.

He was appointed as a member of a committee to draft Guidelines on Multimodal Online Teaching of the Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna on 26th May 2020. This is an important role that he has been playing in order to adapt the teaching methods to the current situation of the pandemic.

Mr. Pradinath also established a forum for the probationary staff of the Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna, in 2019. The forum provided an opportunity for probationary staff to come together and share their experiences, concerns and ideas, and it helped to promote a sense of community and support within the faculty.

Mr. Sivanesan Pradinath has served as a Student Counselor of the Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna for two terms. The first term was from 20.02.2018 to 31.01.2019 and the second term was from 01.02.2019 to 31.01.2020. As a student counselor, he has provided guidance and support to students, helping them navigate the challenges of university life and achieve their academic goals.
